The release said the Provo Utah Temple will be closed for reconstruction on Feb. 24, 2024, about one month after the Orem Utah Temple is dedicated. SALT LAKE CITY — The Orem Utah Temple will be dedicated on Jan. 21, 2024, with an open house beginning on Oct. 27, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Tuesday. Operating temples elsewhere in Utah — where the Church has 2.2 million members — are located in Bountiful, Brigham City, Draper, Logan, Monticello, Ogden, South Jordan (the Jordan River and Oquirrh Mountain temples) and Vernal. On Tuesday, June 20, the Church’s First Presidency released the dedication and open house dates for the Orem Utah Temple and the closure date of the Provo Utah Temple.

The release of the photos and video coincide with the temple’s media day, which kicks off the open-house phase

An update on the temple’s construction was posted on the temple’s Facebook page in late August, which shows most of the building and some landscaping complete. President Russell M. Nelson announced the temple in October 2019. However, construction was delayed due to a fire in September 2022. The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple open house is ongoing and will continue until July 8; the temple will be dedicated on Aug. 13. The St. George Utah Temple is also scheduled for a rededication on Dec. 10, with an open house beginning Sept. 15.

After a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is built or has undergone an extensive renovation, it is opened for public tours prior to being dedicated or rededicated. After the dedication or rededication, Church members with temple recommends can enter to perform sacred ordinances. The art glass design of the first-story windows is reminiscent of the nearby wetlands and Utah Lake, using water, cattails, bulrushes and other grasses as prominent motifs. Design elements of the second- and third-story windows include the cherry tree, with blossoms, leaves and fruits all representing many of the surrounding orchards. Designs for the decorative paintings, which are based on art nouveau styles, feature curving lines, cattails and cherry branches and blossoms. The colors — reds and greens, with light-brown and pink accents — are similar to those used throughout the temple.

And the Provo temple — with its planned reconstruction including a major redesign and extensive exterior overhaul — will close at the end of the day on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024. In one spacious stairwell, the windows show tree branches carrying pink buds in the spring on the ground floor, full pink blossoms on the second floor and, finally, bright red cherries on the top floor. In November 2021, the Church released an exterior rendering of the redesigned Provo temple, which will remain at the same location at the mouth of Rock Canyon on Provo’s east bench. A temple for Orem was one of eight locations announced on Oct. 5, 2019, by President Russell M. Nelson during the Saturday evening women’s session of general conference. The materials include brass, crystal and glass, with motifs inspired by the cherry tree. The light fixtures are a transitional cylindrical shape and include motifs inspired by the cherry tree. The temple is a symmetrical three-story steel structure with granite cladding, topped by a multi-tiered tower with a slender steel steeple. The total height of the temple, including the spire, is 218 feet, making it one of the taller temples in the Church. The floor plan includes 4 instruction rooms, with 50 seats in each. The temple will open to the public following a media and special guest day on Oct. 3, 2023.
